The 1625 Annual Open House was this past Sunday, March 10th! Thanks to everyone who came to see the Bot Shop and see our engineering process! We unfortunately didn't have our robot operational for the Open House, but our efforts were able to be shown. Along with our robot, there was a 20-year memorial set up, as this is our 20th season of FIRST. There was also a table with buttons and a tri-fold poster with an explanation of FIRST and a summary of our team this season. Our sponsor presentation was also displayed, rolling continuously from a projector on the garage door. Thanks to cookie providers for adding a sweet treat to our open house!
Again, thanks to anyone who came to the open house! We are excited to continue to document our progress (and share it with you) through the season! Our Annual Open House is this Sunday March 10th 2pm-4pm! We will be showcasing our progress this season, Team history, and information about FIRST and the FTC and FLL teams mentored by Winnovation. We will also be providing cookies!
Since January 6th, our team has made lots of progress on the robot design! Our CADing is mostly finished–there are some changes being made occasionally but nothing too major. Our part manufacturing team is about 85% of the way complete. We have been piecing together a great sum of the robot already because of the welding going on in our shop. Welding is helping us not only assemble our robot, but also envision and make changes to the bot when needed. This is because the CAD design could look and turn out differently from how the robot will actually look and function. Our robot will be expected to shoot, throw, and hang on the chains attached to the stage. The team expects to be completed around the time of our Open House, which is March 10th from 2:00—4:00pm at our bot shop. At our Open House we plan to showcase our robot for this season and provide cookies!!! Since 2022, Winnovation has been an ambassador of M.E. FIRST, working to ensure anyone at FIRST Competitions can't go without. This year, we are continuing this tradition in being ambassadors with M.E. FIRST by providing menstrual products at both regional competitions we will attend this year. We are also going to share what M.E. FIRST is and why other teams should join in with us.
Last Saturday was the kickoff of this season's game Crescendo! Crescendo is a music styled game. The game pieces are called notes. You can either score in the amp or the speaker. You are also able to hang on the chain on what's called the stage. The last type of scoring is to spotlight the microphone which is on top of the stage. To score the human player has to throw a note onto the microphone. Check out these videos to learn more!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9keeDyFxzY4 https://firstfrc.blob.core.windows.net/frc2024/Manual/2024GameManual.pdf This coming January 6th, Winnovation will be hosting a watch party for the new Crescendo game release. At 10:00 AM, we will be having breakfast brought by team members before the stream begins. Shortly after breakfast, the kickoff stream will begin at 11:00 AM and end approximately at noon. After receiving information about the game and collecting the rulebook, students will break away for an hour before returning to shop to analyze the game further and develop goals for our season!! On December 2nd, 2023 starting at 8:00 AM at WHS Cafetorium, Winnovation (FRC Team 1625) will be hosting their annual FlapJack Challenge and Pancake Breakfast. The FlapJack Challenge is a minibot competition built around a game designed to build rookies awareness of expectations in a real robotics competition, which FRC teams are introduced to early January of next year. Each team is given about 5 weeks to build a robot–often called a minibot due to its small size– based on a game designed by team seniors. This year’s game is called Mark-it-up!. In addition to their robot competition, Winnovation will be serving a pancake breakfast to anyone who buys breakfast tickets from 8:00 AM until noon, at which time they will begin serving pizza. Winnovation will also be hosting a basket raffle which will include a variety of 40+ differently themed baskets donated by local businesses or put together by families. For people craving a sweet treat, there will be a bake sale with a variety of goods baked by members of the Winnovation family. Tickets for the pancake breakfast are $6.00 for adults and $4.00 for kids 12 and under. Winnovation Team 1625 members are selling pancake tickets now or they will be available at the door!
A Group of Winnovation Team 1625 members visited NIU STEM Fest to talk about FIRST and being a robotics student and it was a blast!! From 10 AM to 3 PM, the team talked with many eager students, teachers, and community members while showing off PRODIUS, our drive train robot. On the side, team members got to explore the NIU campus and their many activities in their different areas other than Anderson Hall. Overall, everyone had a great time and we all took a little piece of knowledge back to our bot shop. Want some new Winnovation swag?
